Component master plan of Navettakangas in Administrative Court

Component master plan of Navettakangas in Administrative Court

The municipal council of Siikajoki approved the Navettakangas wind power component master plan in its meeting on 5 February 2014. After approval, three complaints on the master plan were submitted to the Administrative Court of Oulu. All of the complaints concerned the impact of the Navettakangas wind farm on the Raahe-Pattijoki aerodrome.

The Administrative Court is currently reviewing the complaints and will probably make its decision by March 2015. The municipality of Siikajoki has submitted its response to the complaints, stating that the safety of aviation activity on the Raahe-Pattijoki aerodrome mentioned in the complaints was investigated upon preparing the master plan, and no obstacles to building the wind farm were found. The most important guarantee of the safety of the wind farm can be considered to be the fact that the Finnish Transport Safety Agency TraFi has assessed the Navettakangas wind power project and granted flight obstacle permits to all of the planned power plants.

"Even though the complaints are not likely to result in changes to the master plan, the Administrative Court process is hard for all parties involved," says Jukka Kuuskoski, Country Manager, Element Power. "We hope that in the future, corresponding discussions can be had already during the planning process, and we want to encourage our local stakeholders to contact us whenever they are concerned about something in our project."
